There’s something about the rain that slows the world down just enough to let the good stuff in.
Today, the storm clouds rolled in, and with them came one of those perfect quiet afternoons—no rush, no noise, just the steady rhythm of rain tapping against the windows. The kind of day that makes you grab a blanket, heat up a mug of something warm, and settle into the couch with someone who knows your whole story.
So that’s what I did.
Dad and I sat in the living room, no agenda, no distractions. Just us, wrapped in blankets and memories. He wore his cozy pajama pants, still sharp and full of humor, even if time has slowed his step. We started with small talk—what we remembered about old neighbors, his favorite home-cooked meals, the music he used to love. Then, somewhere between the laughter and the long pauses, the conversation deepened.
He shared a few stories I’d never heard before—ones about his younger years, about being scared and brave and in love with life. I told him how much those stories meant to me, how they stitched the fabric of our family together.
We didn’t solve anything today. We didn’t need to. Sometimes, just sitting with someone who sees your whole journey is enough to make the clouds feel a little lighter.
Rain still fell outside. But in here, it felt warm.
