Why I Am So Tired
advertisement
Lately, I’ve noticed how often Dad feels tired, and at first, it worried me. Tiredness can show up for many reasons, especially as someone grows older or is recovering from illness. The body naturally slows down with age, and simple activities that once felt effortless can now require much more energy. What may seem like a small task to us—walking across the room, eating a meal, or even holding a long conversation—can be exhausting for him.
Sometimes, his tiredness comes from his medications. Many treatments that help with one condition can leave the body drained in other ways. Sleep also changes with age; it may not be as deep or restful, which leaves him feeling weary during the day. Add to that the natural wear and tear on the body, and it makes sense why he needs more rest.
But there’s more to it than just the physical. The mind and heart also play a role. Carrying the weight of years, memories, illnesses, and emotions can be tiring too. Dad has lived through so much, and that kind of life experience leaves both strength and fatigue behind.
Still, even in his tiredness, I see resilience. He may rest more, but when he opens his eyes and gives us a smile, it reminds me that he’s still giving us everything he has. His tiredness is not weakness—it’s the body’s way of conserving energy for what matters most.
We remind him, gently, that it’s okay to rest. It’s okay to be tired. Every moment he spends with us, whether awake or asleep, is precious. And in those quiet hours of rest, we see the courage of a man who has given so much and still keeps going, in his own steady way. 💖
