Even as a young pup, Buddy had a nose for everything. Nothing in the house escaped his investigation. Whether it was a suspicious squeaky toy under the couch, a forgotten snack on the kitchen counter, or a new pair of shoes, Buddy approached it all with intense focus and an adorably serious expression. That day in 2016, he was in full detective mode — ears perked, nose twitching, tail still — the perfect portrait of canine concentration. I couldn’t help but laugh and grab my camera. I didn’t realize until later just how perfectly that photo captured his curious spirit.
Buddy always had a way of making us feel like he was working a case. If a door was left ajar, he’d nudge it open like a seasoned investigator. If someone new walked in, he’d do a full “sniff down,” followed by a tail wag of approval (or a low huff of suspicion). And heaven help you if you dropped something — Buddy was already on the scene before it hit the floor.
But under that detective’s badge was a heart of gold. Buddy was sweet, gentle, and always ready to trade his investigations for cuddles. At night, he’d curl up beside me as if to say, “Case closed for the day.”
Looking at this picture now brings back such fond memories of those early years. Buddy was still growing into himself — still figuring out the world with every step, every sniff, every silly bark.
